The Advantages of Reconditioned/Remanufactured Parts
A remanufactured (or "reman") part is a high quality alternative to a new part. Remanufacturing is a process in which used parts are examined and restored to original specifications; something purists can claim is original on the Concourse. Remanufactured parts are usually less expensive than new parts but more expensive than used parts.
Remanufactured parts are different from used or rebuilt parts. A used part is sold "as is" from a salvage car. It is stripped from the car and sold in its existing condition and you have no guarantee as to what you get. When a part is rebuilt, only the component that has failed is replaced or fixed, which is ok as long as it only had one fault. If not you could face another repair bill pretty soon.
A rebuilt unit will begin its life where it left off with only the failed component replaced. In a remanufactured part, each component of the unit is cleaned and examined. All component parts are checked and brought back to specifications where necessary. When finished, a remanufactured unit should function as well as a new unit and still cost you less than a new part.
